There are two types of activation

1. This is for users without restrictions from firewalls and proxy servers and a self service web site for those with security issues - an essential duo, as without the ability to offer both your support costs will be significantly higher from callers within Enterprises or behind secure Internet defences.
2. In addition, as publisher you have access to our Activation Portal where they can manage the entire activation service from controlling activation to downloading reports and registration data (option). The activation service also allows you to gather business intelligence about such things as serial number abuse and product activation activities.

The activation service also includes the ability for the end user to return the license to the server with one click for storage while changing PCs or upgrading their system. This is very convenient and customer friendly. It also eliminates the hassles for users wishing to 'move' their license without contacting you - saves them time and you money!

Unlike most other schemes, the data stream is also encrypted protecting you and the end user's data.

This service is in addition, of course, to manually issuing codes to callers who don't have Internet access. All the sample utilities and code are provided free when you buy PRO-Tector™.

How the Activation Service works

The Activation Process

Most customers who purchase a single-user product will install and activate it immediately, although activation can be completed any time within the first 30 days after installation. However, products must be activated within 30 days or they will no longer run. The activation process is most often completed over the Internet and takes just a few seconds. Activation is also available by telephone. Either option can be used 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Anonymity and Privacy

Product activation is a completely anonymous and private process for the end user. The purpose of activation is to verify a product’s license and nothing more. Users who wish to receive the benefits from registering their products may provide additional information (such as name, e-mail address, etc.) at their option, but registration is never required in order to use the product. No personally identifiable information is ever requested, collected, or transmitted during activation.

Internet Activation

If the product detects that the computer has a valid Internet connection, it attempts to use Internet activation as its first choice for activation.

The activation server then processes this request and, if successful, returns a response message that includes a digital license that only the requesting computer can use. As soon as this digital license is received, activation is complete and the product can launch and run.

Using our service

The developer is provided with a batch of 15 digit codes as a text file that relate to each product in her portfolio. These are then issued to end users at the point of purchase.
