Having tried a number of security systems, I have finally found one that works - PRO-Tector!
I have wasted $10,000's on massive support headaches and the cost of replacing software when moving to new security systems plus the issues of end user hassles who subsequently get refunds. All this wasted money with no chance of getting it back from the vendors who promise but do NOT deliver.
The last system I used was the only one for the Macromedia Director product i could find, called Crypto from Sampson Multimedia, it all seemed great from their website and I spent a great deal of time and money integrating their software into our projects. The software appeared to work fine in testing and then we rolled out 1000's of CDs....
The problem is a simple one, the software was unreliable and in 1 out of 3 cases customers get massive issues with the license keys, they keep changing, they stop working and force the user to re-license and all without any real logic. This means loss of income to us in refunds, huge support bills and lots of angry phone calls. Support from the supplier was very poor and they completely ignored the above issue so we had to look for an alternative.
This is when we came across PRO-Tector, this time we wanted something bulletproof and the fact that they had a very flexible system, a 90 day guarantee and had been around for 20+ years was a good start. The software was more complex to implement but offered many benefits over Crypto, mainly the ability to run different types of security depending on the type of end user including Web Activation to save the end user having to call us for a code!
BUT the main benefit was the fact that the software was stable and easy to use for the end user. Not matter what they seemed to do to their PC including re-formatting the security did NOT fail and force them to call us - this has meant at least a 70% decrease in support costs and $10,000s of savings in terms of revenues. PLUS our Users are now happy and content as its so easy to move the licenses around.
The software was more costly on the face of it BUT if we had bought this instead of Crypto we would have been an estimated $100,000 better off in the short time we used Crypto and we would have had a much better reputation in the market!
